Dear All The Department of Transport has published an Amendment Bill to the National Road Traffic Act, 1996 for comment. Comments may be submitted until 18 August 2012. The Bill is available on www.altaswanepoel.co.za under Presentations. It amends a very wide range of provisions. Provisions relating to - • traffic officers, driving schools, driving instructors, driving licences, exemptions for disaster management personnel from the speed and road sign provisions, incident management, etc. are amended • lowering the blood alcohol limits from 0.05 gram per 100 ml to 0.02 grams and the breath alcohol limits from 0.24 mg per 1000 ml to 0.10. • Professional drivers will have a 0.00 limit once the amendment is approved.
