UTASA Bulletins
Download this Bulletin in PDF First Edition August 30, 2008 Development We can proudly state that we have passed the embryonic stage and now need to take the steps necessary to maintain and fast track the progress of your association. We have as the interim executive committee, identified the need to have an individual permanently employed to man the UTASA office. After carefully interviewing, screening and short-listing potential candidates, we decided to employ Mr. Booysen Smith who has a history of being involved in towing associations and is currently self employed and needs no introduction to the role required except to be enlightened about current developments. The second and most important issue to be addressed is the election of an executive committee. This cannot be postponed any longer and will have to be addressed democratically and transparently. A tentative date for an AGM has been set for 18 October 2008, venue to be advised. To ensure the progress of the association we are certain that members will take the responsibility, attend and vote for the candidates whom they deem responsible and trustworthy enough to take this association forward in their best interests. Please be informed that only paid up members may attend and take part in the electoral and nomination process and or stand for office. Achievements Effectively UTASA members may now tow Hollard, Santam and Zurich insured vehicles. Special thanks to Hollard, Santam & Zurich for being an active participant in helping to break the chains of poverty in a highly volatile industry. UTASA is effectively and vigorously involved in negotiations with other entities in procurement contracts for its members. TOWING OPERATORS WILL CONTACT ZURICH ASSESSMENT CENTRE IN THEIR AREA FOR AUTHORISATION TO TOW ZURICH INSURED VEHICLES; Gauteng, Limpopo, N/West, and Mpumalanga:- 011 577-0350 contact person John Muldoon or Pat Naidoo Eastern, Northern & Western Cape:- 021 402-8100 contact person Justin Brooderyk Free State, Kwazulu Natal:- 031 368-7743 contact person Larry Rasmussen Towing Operators will tow vehicles to Zurich's assessment centre if the centre is within a 40km radius during office hours. If this is not possible, contact the Zurich assessment centre to arrange where vehicle should be taken to. If accident occurs after hours or weekends the towing operator may take vehicles to their own storage premises and must endeavour to make contact with Zurich as soon as possible i.e. the next working day. Invoices will be paid by Zurich within 30 days of receipt and must reflect the following; VAT Number, Towing Company Name, Address and Contact Details. Towed from (Location of accident) and towed to (destination) and claim or policy number. Invoice must be accompanied by a copy of the towing slip/instruction. Should you not be VAT registered, the words “no vat” must appear on your invoice. UTASA decal number will be requested by Zurich assessment centre for identification before authorisation is given to tow. SANTAM Call Centre: - 0860505911 HOLLARD: - 0861000911 DUAL MEMBERSHIP UTASA must reiterate that members should now decide once and for all where their allegiance lies, i.e. to which national association they wish to belong. Freedom of choice is paramount in addressing this issue. Santam states that any towing company affiliated to more than one national towing body will not be captured on their database. I.e. you will not be allowed to tow Santam insured vehicles; therefore it is in your best interest to decide to which association you wish to belong. THANKS UTASA wishes to thank members who have supported from the beginning and trust that they will continue to do so as loyal members. Remember a paid up member is a committed member. UTASA, your association needs funds to drive your cause. These funds are crucial for the day to day running i.e. sms’s, faxes, telephones, stationery, etc. Anyone wishing to join UTASA should not hesitate as this is a member driven organisation.
